Beating Cancer One Client at a Time
One of the best parts of being one of the fastest-growing public relations companies in Oklahoma City is the opportunity to work on some truly incredible events. This week, we have the benefit of getting to serve as the promoter for the 15th annual St. Baldrick’s event that is held each year at the Western Avenue Corridor.
This particular year was an even better one than usual for us to be associated with St. Baldrick’s and for good reason. Last year, I lost a long-time friend of mine to breast cancer after years of reoccurring issues with the treacherous disease. Then, just a few weeks ago, I found out one of my clients had been diagnosed with stage four cancer. These are just two of the latest people to have been affected, but I have known several who have had to deal with the fallout from cancer during various times in their lives.
For those of you who don’t know much about the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, they are built around raising money for childhood cancer research. It’s a great cause to be associated with, and they are all focused on doing what they can to bring smiles to the faces of kids who are stricken with this awful disease.
Two clients we have worked with recently have focused on raising money for nonprofits associated with cancer (the OKC Auto Show gave money to 10 Strong). We are proud to be doing what we can to maximize the money that is being raised for such a life-changing event.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation has been around since 1999, and the Oklahoma City chapter has been raising money through donations dedicated to shaved heads for 15 years. People have been showing incredible generosity during that time, and we anticipate another amazing charitable effort this year as well.
The event is taking place this Sunday, starting at noon. For those not familiar with the location, it is just south and in front of VZD’s in the parking lot, street and extended to Beck’s Garage. There will be food trucks, adult beverages, live music and dancers, and lots of activities for the kids. The hair shaving is anticipated to end around 4 and then the good times will move inside VZD’s with more live music until 7 p.m.
In addition to working with St. Baldrick’s to help promote the event through media relations and social media posts, I will be volunteering my time and efforts throughout the day on Sunday. We will be encouraging people to use our hashtags (#stbokc, #rockthebald and #baldisbeautiful) throughout the day when posting pics to social media.
